Love is a virtue… but…

My boyfriend lent me his ipod, loaded with my favorite music. It was a sweet gesture, but it made me wonder… How many children’s eyes bled, trying to sodder the circuit boards properly, sweating in a some poorly ventilated shop — so that the ipod was cheap enough for my sweetheart to afford? There’s no such thing as cheap labor. The price is always higher than the savings; one way, or another.

My darling picked me up in his car, taking me to a picnic on the beach. It was an intimate moment, but it made me ponder… How many species of animals died, when the company that makes the fuel for the car decided to cut costs by not inspecting their oil tanker correctly, bleeding into the ocean like a hemorrhaged organ — so that we could spend this moment focused on nothing but ourselves? We cry about the price of oil when it hits $3 a gallon. The cost doesn’t even come close to the real damage; loss beyond currency.

My lover gave me a diamond ring, bended on one knee. It was a heartfelt question, but it forced me to consider… How many men died, or women were raped, in the conflict over natural resources… exploiting people, places, and things for profit — so that I could change my status to “engaged” on facebook? Maybe the value of romance is over-rated. It certainly isn’t worth the blood, sweat, and tears of the innocent; greed taxes humanity.

Love is a virtue… but revolution is an imperative.
