One day I will be beautiful.

One day I will be beautiful. I will be beautiful enough that a man will never forget to introduce me to “old friends” he runs into at a restaurant. He will remember my presence, and speak my name, and introduce me with haste — as to make it clear that I am someone worth introducing, or being introduced to.

I won’t have to sit there feeling awkward and forgotten. I will never have to look down at my phone to divert the disappointed look in my gaze, or the embarrassed blush of my cheeks. Though it’s such a slight thing, it means the world to me… to be remembered, even just long enough to assert that you know me. 

One day I will be beautiful… or I will learn to go out with more considerate men… and not have to feel silly about still being annoyed days afterwards. 

And if I can’t be beautiful, then at least I hope I can be smarter… or at least have better taste in men.
